Tips for Getting Ready for 2024’s Digital SAT
Do you intend to take the PSAT or the digital SAT in 2024? In this blog, we will review test-taking strategies, recommended resources, and some things to be mindful of.
Our first advice is to use as many authentic materials as possible. Things get trickier because there is less available material for the digital SAT than there is for the other SAT. Let us now review the possible options.
SAT Prep Resources Available Online Officially
Initially, the Bluebook app was a mobile application released by the College Board. It has practice tests, which is why we think it’s the best resource to obtain and utilize. However, there are now just four practice tests available.
We do, however, have some remarks regarding these tests. There are more practice problems in this module’s adaptive assessments than you would find in a two-hour, fourteen-minute practice session. After completing one Reading and Writing portion, you will be moved to one of two problem sets: one that is harder if your score is greater or one that is easier if your score is lower. Some of you may be thinking that the four tests are for the SAT, and that’s why you’re looking for practice materials for the PSAT. Given that both the SAT and the PSAT will have a runtime of two hours and fourteen minutes, which is different from the existing paper versions of these examinations, they are essentially the same test and will only become more similar.
Utilize Outside Sources for Math and Grammar
Second piece of advice: study outside of the classroom for math and language. The content on the digital SAT in these categories is remarkably comparable to what we’ve seen in previous iterations of the test. Therefore, you can utilize the outdated SAT materials (2016–2024), and the overlap will be sufficient for you to obtain what you require. Use the Bluebook app’s digital SAT practice exams first. We nevertheless advise you to base your work on the areas you did not fully cover on the practice exams. After determining the types of questions that are absent from such assessments, practice your math skills.

Learning new words is our third piece of advice. We advise you to start working on your vocabulary and attempting to boost your word power if you know it is lacking. Since Brooke enjoys reading and finds it relaxing and different from her usual internet exposure, we have some book choices. Brooke loves learning vocabulary through books. She enjoys using paper flashcards and vocabulary books the old-fashioned way to learn words. Some of my favorite books for increasing vocabulary (notice that these are Amazon affiliate links that fund our free content) are listed below:
Though there are other ways to acquire vocabulary, one effective method is through spaced repetition, which involves reviewing a word once and then reviewing it again five minutes later, an hour later, a day later, a week later, and so on. This method can be done with apps, which has been shown to improve retention. Currently, there aren’t many word lists specifically designed for the digital SAT, and when they are, they usually use words from the four available practice tests. Next, since you will be familiar with the more difficult terms that are likely to be found on those lists, studying such lists will lead to you receiving higher test scores. Because lists generated straight from the digital SAT are unlikely to contain words that will appear on your test, using them can be a little risky.
Create your own set of vocabulary terms as well. You are therefore welcome to review and analyze each question on the test after completing it. Determine which questions you missed and which words you were unfamiliar with, and perhaps list them all and create flashcards. Although it’s an excellent starting point, you’ll require more than what is covered in the test. Regardless, prioritize your vocabulary.
Study the Different Types of Reading Questions and How to Answer Them
Make sure you understand the proper way to tackle each type of reading inquiry as our fourth piece of advice. Up until a lot of preparation materials become available, this will be the most difficult task to do in 2024. Although it doesn’t matter if they are books or internet resources, Brooke’s preferred prep materials come from independent tutors rather than large box stores. It is advised that you locate digital practice materials, as this is the method in which you will take the test and it will be more effective to practice from a screen than a book.
We will cover these question types in our online course, which will be accessible in June or July. Practice sets will be offered using a dialogue/screen that mimics the actual Digital SAT.
How well you read, comprehended, and processed difficult material were key components of the previous SAT exam. It appears that concepts like logical thinking are necessary for passing this test. Therefore, for instance, it’s more important to comprehend cause and effect than it is to just know whether you can read. To succeed on this test, however, you will need to grasp certain sorts of reading, such as logical reasoning, argument construction, the distinction between a claim and its support, and other related concepts.
Exercise!
Practice, practice, practice is our sixth piece of advice, which is somewhat generic. Your chances of getting a great score will increase with practice. We also understand that your options for finding such things for the digital SAT will be more constrained because it is more difficult to produce digital materials; but, hopefully, this blog has given you some suggestions!
